In the spirit of the First Rocky and The Champ, Real Steel has Real Heart!
Hugh Jackman in a total break from his usual roles, plays the estranged father of an adorable boy who fights his way back to the top. He was a former boxer, who now (in the future) fights robots instead.
The robot action is awesome - the CGI great and the acting fantastic! The first half of the story is on the slow side, but the second half had the audience cheering for ATOM the Rockin' Sockin' Robot!
This movie is very kid friendly - no sex or foul language (that I remember), but also fun for adults. It was a 3 tissue affair! Real Steel is a feel good movie the perfect antidote for the daily blues. I highly recommend it!
Action 7 Keys out of 10
Heart 10 Keys out of 10
Dakota's cuteness 10 keys out of 10

Overall 9 keys out of 10
Reference to the Princess Bride - 10 "Storming the Castles" out of 10!
Note: I actually watched this movie before Footloose, handwrote my entry, but did not have a chance to type it until now.

Footloose
I really enjoyed the Footloose remake. I re-watched (for the upteenth time) the original Footloose on Saturday night and then watched the reboot on Sunday.
Now to compare....
The original Footloose they hired actors and dubbed in the dancing, for the reboot they hired dancers who wanted to act.
Kenny Wormald is no Kevin Bacon. Kevin had a magic about him in the original. Bacon is not pretty, but he made you believe in him. You rooted for him to get the girl. Wormald was fine. His dancing was great, but his acting was just fine. He is handsome (way more than Bacon) and you were rooting for him, but not in the same way you did for Bacon. Wormald 7 keys out of 10, Bacon 9.5 keys out of 10
Julianne Hough was amazing. She danced, she acted, she had a sparkle in her eyes. Far superior to Lori Singer. You rooted for her and her red cowboy boots! She will go far as an actress! Hough 9 keys out of 10 Singer 8 keys out of 10
Dennis Quaid was no John Lithgow - he did not breath fire and brimstone - the requirments for the preacher part! He was adequate. Quaid 6 keys out of 10 Lithgow 9 keys out of 10
Miles Teller did Willard justice! Everytime I see Footloose, the part where Ren is teaching Willard to dance reminds me of my roomates in college teaching me! Teller was just as amazing as Christopher Penn. Teller 9 keys out of 10 Penn 9.5 keys out of 10
Interesting move giving the very young Sarah Jessica Parker part to Ziah Colon. I liked the fact that Rusty hit the redneck over the head with the bottle, and did not leave all the fighting to Willard. Parker 10 keys out of 10 for energy 9 keys out of 10 over all. Colon 7 keys out of 10
I really enjoyed comparing the two movies, what they left out, the changes that they made. The main omission is that the new version leaves out the book burning scene.
Who should see it: Any nostalgic fan of the original and Teenagers (very teenager friendly), older people may not like the new music.
So what is the verdict?
Dancing - Original - 8 keys out of 10, Remake 9 keys out of 10
Acting - Original - 9 keys out of 10, Remake 7.5 keys out of 10
Overall - Original - 9 keys out of 10, Remake 8 keys out of 10.
